Candi Kuning is the most crowded place in the mountainous Bedugul area and is located 1,200 meters above sea level right on the edge of Lake Bratan which is cool and often foggy. Located on the main road to the north coast of Bali, and located just a little south of Lake Bratan, Pasar Candi Kuning is a bustling local vegetable and fruit market. Orchids and other forest plants thrive at the height of this area, various kinds of fruits and vegetables are beautifully arranged attracting both tourists and people who come from all over Bali. In addition there are also flowers and exotic fruits, spices, such as nutmeg, pepper, paprika and turmeric which display various beautiful colors.
All new harvests are taken from many fields around the area. Not only watermelons, melons, bananas, papaya, pink dragon fruit and durians are sold here, in Candi Kuning market, visitors can enjoy a pile of juicy strawberries, sweet and very plump where berries are usually not good in tropical climates but are cultivated en mass on the cooler highlands of Bali. In addition to strawberries, visitors can also buy orchid seeds, as well as hunting for various types of local souvenirs such as painting and textile crafts that can be found in stalls as well. Because the market is very crowded and popular, the price of goods is quite high but with some talent for bargaining and by coming rather late in the afternoon, when most tourists have left, visitors can get stuff at very reasonable price.
Pasar Candi Kuning is located just a little to the south of Lake Bratan with Ulun Danu Bratan Temple on the main Denpasar-Singaraja road. Pasar Candi Kuning is open from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and to get there visitors can take a local bus, taxi or take a tour from Singaraja or from southern Bali such as Kuta, Sanur and Nusa Dua.
