Pura Jayaprana or Pura Puncak Luhur Sari is a landmark that
commemorates the tragic love of Jayaprana, the foster son of a
17th-century king of Kalianget north Bali.
The temple is located some 20-minute walk up some stone stairs from the southern side of the road, a little west of Labuhan Lalang. There are fine views to the north at the top.
Jayaprana married Leyonsari, a beautiful village girl from Banjar in Lovina. The king, however, also fell in love with Leyonsari and had Jayaprana killed by the Prime Minister Saung Galing. When Leyonsari learned the truth of Jayaprana’s death instead of marrying the king she killed herself. This Romeo and Juliet story is a common theme in Balinese folklore, and the grave is regarded as sacred, even though the ill-fated couple were not gods.
The gravesite is peaceful and has a great view. Visitors can see the sea, Menjangan Island, and some mountains in East Java. Location of this temple is at Teluk Terima, West Bali National Park, Sumber Kelampok village, Grokgak, Buleleng. It is about 2 hours and 40 minutes drive from Denpasar through Denpasar-Singaraja road, with the distance of around 86 km.
