Mount Rinjani Volcano Trekking (4 Days / 3 Nights)

Mount Rinjani in the Gunung Rinjani National Park, Lombok, is one of Indonesia’s highest peaks. At 3726 m (12,224ft) above sea level, it soars above the island and dominates the landscape, but by mid-morning on most days the summit is shrouded in cloud. Of the 130 volcanoes in Indonesia, Rinjani is the second-highest (topped only by Mount Kerinci in Sumatra). Mount Rinjani is actually an active volcano. Its last big eruption was in 1901. It has a huge crater contains a large green crescent-shaped lake, Segara Anak, which is about 6 km long at its widest point.

Mount Rinjani climbing can start either from Senaru Village or Sembalun Lawang. On a 3 day and 2 night trekking when you are already in Lombok, the summit climbing is done on the second day if you start from Sembalun. If you begin from Senaru the summit climbing is done on the last day. On this trekking tour we will start from Sembalun.

DAY 1: BALI – LOMBOK

Transfer from hotel to airport in Bali for the flight to Mataram in Lombok. Upon arrival in Lombok, you will be welcomed by our tour guide and go directly on tour to visit Sukarara village. The village is famous for its woven songket and batik cloth typical of Lombok. After that visit Sade Rambitan village to see the Sasak tribe’s traditional house that has very distinctive form. It has palm fiber with bamboo as the wall and roof buffer. Its floor is made of hardened soil. The Sasak tribe’s most unique tradition in Sade Rambitan village is that they always mop the floor with Buffalo dung. This tradition according to local belief is to keep the floor warm and damp, remove dust, and keep hardening the soil to be like cement as well as to keep the house free from evil spirits.

After that we visit Kuta Beach and Tanjung Aan which is famous for its white sand. Check in at hotel for overnight stay. Free program at your own leasure.

DAY 2: START THE TREK (L,D)

You will be picked up at hotel lobby at 05.00 am then transfer to Sembalun in a 3 hour drive. Register at the Rinjani Information Center (RIC) in Sembalun Lawang (1,156 m above sea level), meet your guide and arrange National Park entry tickets. Your guide will give you a briefing about the route details, local traditions and what you will see, rubbish management and safety procedures. The trek starts from Sembalun Lawang with the gentle ascent walking through open grassland used as cattle feeding by local people. Resting at Pos 1 Pemantauan (1,300m), after about three hours from Sembalun we reach Pos 2 Tengengean (1,500 m) enjoying the beautiful views of Mt. Rinjani summit (3,726 m). After another hour ascent to Pos 3 Pada Balong (1,800 m), we start the climb amidst the pine-like Casuarinas species of tree locally known as cemara, there is possibility of seeing wild boars and long-tailed grey macaque monkeys around the camp site at Plawangan II Sembalun crater rim (2,639 m). Overnight stay in a tent.

DAY 3: NIGHT CLIMB TO THE SUMMMIT (B, L, D)

Very early in the morning at around 03.00 am, start a 4 hour trek from Pelawangan to reach the summit of Mount Rinjani. We will watch the sunrise over Sumbawa from the junction of the paths, before starting the final ascent. The view from the rim is great but it is nothing compared to the view from the summit. From the summit you can look down into the crater, which is filled up with ‘cotton wool’ cloud streaming through the gap in the crater wall at the hot springs. You can see Bali in one direction and Sumbawa in the other from the summit. After spending enough time on top, start the trek down to the lake that takes up to 6 hours. On arrival at the lake, we set up a camp site, then it is time to soak your body in the spring. Overnight stay in a tent.

DAY 4: DESCEND – TRANSFER TO AIRPORT (B, L)

After breakfast in the morning, we climb to Pos III (about 2000 m above sea level) and continue to Senaru and direct transfer to the airport for the flight back to Bali.
Upon arrival in Bali, transfer to hotel.

Sukarara Weaving Village

Sukarara Village ‣ Most houses in Sukarara Village are still relatively traditional, its construction uses natural materials such as the walls made of woven bamboo, the roof made of dry grass, and the pole made of wood. To keep tradition and preserving skills of weaving, most women here are proficient in weaving. They learn how to weave since childhood. Different from other weaving in Lombok, in Sukarara Village they use gold thread in their motifs.

Traditional house at Sade Rambitan village

Sade Rambitan village ‣ Sade is one of the hamlet in the village of Rembitan, Pujut, central Lombok. People of Sade in Rembitan still adhere to maintaining the authenticity of their village. villagers here have a special habit to mop their floor using buffalo excrement, and in the old age when there was no cement, the Sasak Sade people apply buffalo excrement on the house floor, that way the home floor is believed to be warmer and the house is free from mosquitoes.

Kuta Beach Lombok

Kuta Beach ‣ Kuta beach is usually identical to the most famous beach on the island of Bali. If you think that Kuta beach Bali is a very beautiful beach, then you will be amazed when you visit Kuta Beach Lombok. Located in the southern region of Lombok Island, this beautiful beach has a cleaner and whiter sand. As well as a more wavy coastline with a healthy coral reefs. The beach has a coastline of 7.2 kilometers long. To the west of the beach is a hill called Mandalika Hill.

Tanjung Aan Beach

Tanjung Aan ‣ Unlike other beaches in Lombok, the sand of Tanjung Aan Beach is round shaped like pepper. This beach is perfect for those who love to swim or snorkel because it has relatively shallow depth and the waves are calmer. Tanjung Aan Beach is surrounded by several hills. Visitors can easily reach the hill, if they want to see the beautiful view of Aan Beach from higher place.

Mount Rinjani

Mount Rinjani ‣ Mount Rinjani is a volcano located on Lombok Island. This is the second highest volcano in Indonesia with an altitude of 3,726 m above sea level and is a favorite mountain for Indonesian climbers because of the beauty of the scenery seen from its peak. This mountain is part of Mount Rinjani National Park which has an area of about 41,330 ha. In the cosmology of the local community, Mount Rinjani is the center of the spatial universe. There are still sacrificial ceremony tradition done by the local communities for this volcano.

Sembalun

Sembalun Crater Rim ‣ Sembalun is one of the entrance of the climb to Rinjani. Because of its beautiful scenery, Sembalun becomes the most favorite hiking route for tourists especially for those who have repeatedly come and hiked to the peak of this mountain. The climbers will be greeted by rice fields and grassland around the slope. They will also enjoy the view of Lake Segara from above.
